
Summer is here! Time to have a splash in the sea, or read a book on the sand. Summer is full of potential memories under the sun. Unfortunately, instead of living in the moment, we are becoming increasingly paranoid about how our bodies look. Social media is full to the brim of the secrets to achieving the perfect bikini body.
Society has bombarded us with an unrealistic image of an acceptable ‘bikini body’. Summer body fitness regimes and diets are leaving the majority feeling exhausted and starved.
The actual secret to achieving a beach-worthy bikini body is simple and only involves two steps!
Step 1 – Have a Body. The body you have works great!
Step 2 – Put a bikini on it!
That’s it! The idea that we should all look a certain way is damaging to both our mental and physical health. I am by no means suggesting that all diets and workouts are bad. All I ask is that the sole reason you alter your routine is for YOU. Don’t diet just because society tells you to, diet if it’s what you want to do. Workout because YOU enjoy being fit, not because you feel pressured to do so.

I am obsessed with a person becoming comfortable in their own skin. Nobody deserves to spend this summer overwhelmed with body-image anxiety. It may not be easy, but we need to stop planning our summer body workouts. Instead, start planning summer activities! Remember the aspects of summer that truly make you happy. Surround yourself with the people who love you for who you are. Fill your summer with smiles and laughter, not lonely nights in the gym. There is no reason to change your body just because the sun is out!
You cannot control the way the world thinks, but you can control whether you choose to let it affect you. Will you allow society to shape your mind and your body? Or will you confidently wear whatever makes you feel good this summer? Your body loves you. It’s time to love it back.
